Our Story

Marcus and Trevonne are a husband and wife team from Hampton Roads, VA, where MTC Events was founded.  

The company was originally called Certain Catering when launched in 2007.  Founded by Chef Marcus and his long-time best friend Christopher Drayton, they both set out to create cuisine that was flavorful, affordable, and fun.  As graduates of the highly esteemed Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Hyde Park, NY; these partners were eager to display their skill and passion as part time entrepreneurs.  As events passed and time progressed, the Cuffee family welcomed their son and daughter into the world, graduated college, and sought out new careers. 

 

Chef Marcus accepted a management position working for the largest minority owned Food Service company in the U.S.  Respectively, Trevonne was offered a management position for the largest telecommunications company in retail, and decided to relocate their family to Raleigh, NC to pursue corporate careers in their respective passions.  As a result, Certain Catering was placed on hold.   

Marcus was elevated to Corporate Executive Chef where he traveled across the East Coast managing multi-million dollar food service accounts, and Trevonne became General Manager over a retail store in Raleigh, NC.  With all of their corporate success, the work-life balance as their family progressed seemed more and more of a dream, impacting their ability to spend time raising their children.  As such, Chef Marcus and Trevonne decided to re-launch the catering business with Trevonne as the event planner and sales director

MTC Events was officially birthed on August 1, 2018 as an LLC in Charlotte Mecklenburg County, NC.  With over a combination of 20 years of leadership, contract food service management, catering and banquets, and experience across multicultural, multi-faceted, and national platforms, MTC is well equipped to successfully perform catering and event planning services for private and public event clients. 

Trevonne holds a BA of Liberal Arts in Psychology and Masters in Business Administration.

Chef Marcus holds an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts from CIA.
